US · Published May 18, 2026
A hiker was rescued after falling 50 feet from Haystack Rock at the summit of Mount Si in Washington on Saturday.
The King County Sheriff Air Support team conducted the operation, which was complicated by cloud cover, wind, and snow at the 4,100-foot elevation.
The hiker, who may have suffered a head injury, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle once weather conditions allowed.

Why It's Important?

The incident highlights the risks associated with hiking in challenging terrain, particularly at higher elevations where weather conditions can change rapidly. Falling from significant heights, as in this case, can result in severe injuries. The rescue operation was delayed due to poor visibility and adverse weather, underscoring the importance of preparedness and caution when hiking in mountainous areas.
